Marshall Tourism Planning Reports

Welcome to the Marshall Tourism Committee. We are here to serve the tourism industry in Marshall, and we welcome the public to join us in our mission to make Marshall a hot spot for tourism. Below are some recent Planning Reports from the meetings of the Marshall Tourism Committee. If you have any comments, questions, or new ideas to share with the Marshall

Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee
August 25, 2010

Present:  Stan Moore, Jill Murray, Arline Borchers  & Pam Thomeczek

Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 am

Larry Arrowood was present to represent ideas on Jim the Wonder Dog events.

Items on the agenda:

  • Minutes Approved – Stan Moore made the motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting, Pam Thomeczek seconded it, motion passed.
  •  Old Trails Regional Tourism Partnership update

The Old Trails Regional Tourism Partnership (OTRTP) group was recently awarded one of two grants placed in Missouri (Lake of the Ozarks was the other) by the USDA for the Stronger Economies Together (SET) Pilot Program.  The grant will focus on developing and implementing a regional economic development strategy for the group.  There will be a meeting Oct. 12 at the R. Wilson Brown room at Missouri  Valley College, 11:00 – 4:00, elected officials will be invited to keep them informed on the progress and updates of the program.

  • Marshall Tourism Commission Update – Grant request for OTRTP and Saline County Fairgrounds were both approved.  The next Tourism Commission meeting is set for Sept. 15, 2010.
  • Chamber Tourism Project List – items listed below
  • Marshall Tourism Grant/Affiliate communication – Forms are available at the Chamber office and will be available on the website.  Affiliates were notified of deadlines for 2011 grant applications.
  • Missouri Department of Tourism Grant - application sent 8/24/2010
  • Visitmarshallmo.com Website – continue to review and update information on the website

Tourism Committee Minutes
July 28, 2010

  • Share the Day at the MO State Fair – attendance was down but tourism information was handed out during this time
  • I-70 Signage – Contact has been made to Brendon Norris, Mo Dept. of Transportation concerning  the “Attraction” signs on the East and West side of Marshall Junction on I-70.  Annual  cost is $850 per attraction per sign and there are three spots available.  Waiting on criteria specifications.

Next meeting will be held September 22, 2010 at the Saline County Extension Office @ 9:00 am.

12 Acre lake with three shelter houses, handicapped accessible fishing dock, gravel boat ramp and nature trail.
Open all year, area is closed from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am except for authorized uses. No hunting at any time.
Admission is free
