Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee

January 17, 2008

Committee members present: Stan Moore, Arline Borchers, Rose Anne Huck, Ken Yowell, Bill Riggins, Sally Poole and Pam Thom. and Cynthia Crawford

Reporter:  Rachel Harper

Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 p.m.  Meetings in 2008 will continue on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 9 a.m. at the Saline County Extension Center.

Division of Tourism specs for project funding were discussed as they relate to the Civic Center the Chamber Tourism Committee.  The Division of Tourism emphasizes promoting counties rather than communities.  People research and visit communities.

An emphasis will be put on further website development in 2008.  The group discussed strategies for the tourism website to come up first, or nearly first, in searches for Marshall MO.  Additional capacity and ease of use strategies were discussed at length regarding the website.

Lisa McClary, tourism part-time person from Boonville that works with bed tax revenues was not able to meet with the group due to bad weather.  We hope to share what both communities are doing at a future meeting.
