Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism CommitteeFebruary 18, 2009 People attending: Ken Yowell, Pam Thom., Roseanne Huck, Arline Borchers, Stan Moore, Micki Uhrig, and Cynthia Crawford Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order. Ken Yowell moved and was seconded to approve the minutes. Motion passed. Stan thanked the committee for providing input into the website updates. The group reviewed the website redesign that is in progress and was enthusiastic. Survey Monkey is one option for collecting user feedback about the website. The 2009 grant results have been announced by the Tourism Commission. We are appreciative of their support. $81,270 was requested, $62,450 was approved. The committee thanked Stan for developing the proposal and carrying it forward to the Tourism Commission. The Old Trails Regional Tourism Partnership (OTRTP) project had its annual meeting earlier in February. There was great attendance by this committee and representatives from Arrow Rock. Kathy Borgman and Stan Moore were elected to the board at the annual meeting. Rose Ann Huck was a partner in developing a brochure. Angie Wells is working with Missouri Life magazine and there will be a key article on Regional Cuisines/OTRTP in the April issue. There will be 5000 extra copies printed. Next board meeting for OTRTP will be March 2. Full group will meet March 10 at the Saline County Extension Center at 4 p.m. Jill and Stan will be going to Jefferson City later today to work on grant management with the state. Stan reminded the group that this is a Chamber of Commerce committee. Affiliates do not have to be chamber members to apply for funding. The Chamber board feels that COC tourism committee voting members need to be Chamber members. Of course, meetings are open to all. Micki asked for clarification on whether motels must be listed on event brochures. Concern was expressed that some motels are not paying the bed tax as required. Concern was also expressed that there have been complaints to the Chamber about the sanitation of some local motels. Comfort Inn has had an occupancy rate of 76% since January 1. We need to appreciate MVC for the people they bring in for overnight stays. Cynthia moved and it was seconded that this committee recommended to the Chamber of Commerce become a member of the OTRTP. Motion passed.
