Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee

May 24, 2010

Present: Stan Moore, Pam Thomeczek, Arline Borchers, Bill Riggins, Jill Murray, Cynthia Crawford

Chair Stan Moore called the meeting to order at 9 a.m.

Arline Borchers moved and it was seconded to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Motion passed.

The bike trail from Higginsville to Marshall is in progress. There may be funding via MO Dot.

Bill moved and it was seconded to write a letter to Mo Dot in favor of a bike trail following highway 20. Motion passed. Stan will write and send.

There is a fam tour with the Department of Tourism is on May 26 for the Community Center and Beasley Air Museum.

The Barn Quilt project is progressing. The goal is 20 in each of three counties (total of 60). There are 16 up already. This adds to visitor ready goals.

The Old Trails Regional Tourism Partnership is working on the scenic byways application at the state and federal level. The application has been submitted to the state. A PPT is in progress to talk about the work of OTRTP. There are 78 members thus far. The next meeting is June 8, JB Steakhouse in Carrollton.

This group needs to give some thought about linking to the www.agrimissouri.com.

Bob Kueck and Gary Grote will be retiring from the tourism commission. There are 5 that serve on the commission. They are fine tuning the application guidelines. They want all funding applications to come through the COC tourism committee.

This committee would serve to help affiliates get applications ready for the tourism commission and to better meet the parameters of the application process. This committee would encourage affiliate development.

Cynthia moved and it was seconded that Jill Murray serve as COC tourism committee chair beginning June 1. Motion passed.

Cynthia made a point that the application and application process for commission funding needs to be transparent.

Visitmo.com and the2011 vacation planner deadline is June 15.

We need to be working toward spending $10,000 in advertising to qualify for a better DMO status at the state level. Distribution lists/schedules need to be developed and maintained.

Pam moved and it was seconded to adjourn the meeting at 10 a.m.

Poole Advertising will have a social networking seminar June 16, 7:30 a.m. and will be marketing through the Commission.

Next meeting Tuesday June 22 at 9 a.m. Starting in July, this committee will meet the 4th Wednesdays on the month.
